LABORATORY OF HIGH MOLECULAR COMPOUNDS

The Laboratory of High Molecular compound has been crated since 1998 on the basis of three laboratories –chemistry of polymers for the medical and biological assignments (created in 1985, head Dr.Sci. D.Kh. Khalikov), - Fiber forming Polymer Laboratory (created in 1969 by Dr. Sci., professor I.J. Kalontarov) and Chemistry of fine fibrous cotton (created by Dr. K.M. Makhkamov in 1977). The laboratory Research Work follows the governmental programme on “Strategy of Tajikistan Republic on the Science and Technology 2007-2015” and the Governmental program on “application of achievements on Science and Technology for the Industries of Tajikistan Republic”.

JURABAY KHALIKOVICH KHALIKOV

Head of Laboratory of Macromolecular Chemistry, Head of the theme of "Polymer composite materials based on secondary resources and plant foods", academicians of the Tajikistan Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Sciences, Professor, laureate of State Prize of Abu Ali ibn Sina of the Republic of Tajikistan in the field of science and technology (1996), the best inventor of the Republic of Tajikistan (1997).

The research areas in this laboratory devoted to the synthesis and investigation physicochemical properties of Hydrogel Polymers of the Ethynyl Piperidol (ETP) derivatives and chemistry and technology pectin subsatnces . Systematic studies of the reactivity of ETP-based monomers and of the structure and physicochemical behavior of the derived polymers have been stimulated by the synthesis of pharmacologically active, soluble polymers and cross-linked adsorbents capable of binding toxins and metabolites. Among them graft polymers of ETP hold a prominent place, which have been used as potential hemo- and enterosorbent.

A number of innovations have found application in practice. The technology for the production of “IKHANT” hemosorbent have been approved by former Soviet Union Health Ministry and been passed many clinical tests at Moscow, Saint Petersburg, Dushanbe and Khogent hospitals. Industrial test of the hemostatic and antimicrobic material "know-how" proved at the Glukhov cotton factory (Russia) and was approved by USSR Health ministry for the wide application. The approval of the Russia Zoo Drug Administration have been obtained for the application of the antimicrobial material for treatment of animals gastrointestinal disorders and respiratory diseases and been tested in the many veterinary hospitals of Tajikistan and Russia. Technology for the stabilization of a wine precipitation with application of local bentonite clay and polymeric materials is introduced within “Dushanbe” Wine Company. The method of grids vulcanization and its rubberized fabric is introduced into manufacture of membranes for gas meters.

Research in Pectin Group is focused on pectin polysaccharides physical chemistry and its biological functions. We are studying the structure-function relationships of pectin polysaccharides extracted from different sources with emphasis on technological aspects to obtain highly purified pectin. Previously research has been directed at obtaining a better understanding of the hydrolysis process kinetics and extraction by utilising cheaper technological techniques. The role of pectin as a soluble dietary fibre and immune stimulating polysaccharide has been investigated in different gastrointestinal disorders as well as in combination with ant microbial drugs. In the last years, research has directed on the use of low methoxylated (LM) pectin as a component in drug delivery systems (DDS). In the course of our research we have, characterized apple pectin structure by NMR and IR spectroscopic methods and molecular weight by ultracentrifugation and SEC HPLC. The investigation of different pectin hydrodynamics properties in the dilute solution has show that the degree of methyl etherification changes may lead to conformation transition of macromolecular chain. We have characterized the hydrolysis and extraction process of sunflower pectins as a result a new method for highly purified LM-pectin extraction was developed.

The results of Research have been applied in following area: Development and application of new technology for pectin production on the base of two technological steps developed by Chem. Institute and ERRS laboratories. Methods have been patented-Patent TJ № 197 (1998, National Informational Patent Center of Tajikistan Republic) and TJ № 290 (2009). The advantage of this technique over typical process and other patents (DE 3041096 A1, EP 0426431 A1) was proved in the experimental pectin workshop of PAPO “Shahrinav”. The method was introduced in the experimental workshop and produced more then 14-production lots in period of 1990-1992. In territories of Chemistry Institute the Pilot Plan for production of pectin from different sources has designed exploring both patented methods.
